Spring Is Stirring, And So Is Your Brain!

You can feel the warmth returning to the air, and your body starting to wake up with it. In the studio, we've been leaning into that shift, encouraging it, letting it unfold naturally, and simply noticing it's already in motion.

Maybe you've been thinking about how you're working with that change too, in your body, your mind, your habits as we ease into spring. Are you reaching for lighter meals? Setting new goals, and quietly letting go of others? Noticing the small shifts.

You might even be wondering where does yoga actually fit into all of this? On the simplest physical level: increased mobility, a stronger core, a grounded foundation, greater flexibility through a lengthening of the body, and a deeper connection to what truly serves your wellness.

But according to Harvard Health – Harvard Medical School, the real story isn't just in the body, it's in the brain:

“When you do yoga, your brain cells develop new connections, and changes occur in brain structure as well as function, resulting in improved cognitive skills such as learning and memory. Yoga strengthens parts of the brain that play a key role in memory, attention, awareness, thought, and language. Think of it as weightlifting for the brain.

Studies using MRI scans and other brain imaging technology have shown that people who regularly did yoga had a thicker cerebral cortex (the area of the brain responsible for information processing) and hippocampus (the area of the brain involved in learning and memory) compared with non practitioners. These areas of the brain typically shrink as you age, but the older yoga practitioners showed less shrinkage than those who did no yoga. This suggests that yoga may counteract age-related declines in memory and other cognitive skills.”

Yet another great reason to do yoga!
